POLICY 39: A just economy

This policy states:

Value and promote a just economy through the economic growth and well-being of Black communities, American Indians, people of color, immigrants, and people of all ages and abilities in the region through equitable access to economic resources. (Met Council/Local Government)

What is a policy?
Policies are statements of intent and approach to regional issues or topics, independently and with partners.

Actions

(Met Council) or (Local Government) or (Met Council/Local Government) are tags indicating responsibility for implementing the activity. 

Remove barriers and promote equitable access to quality education, skill-building, mentorship programs, and diverse job training programs for all residents regardless of age, race, disability, or immigration status. Where possible, the Met Council will model skill-building, mentorship, and internship programs that support equitable workforce development. (Met Council/Local Government)  

Encourage businesses and developers to adopt diversity and inclusion initiatives aimed at recruiting, retaining, and promoting employees from diverse racial and immigrant backgrounds. (Met Council/Local Government) 

Support culturally responsive access to financial services and resources for underserved communities, including immigrants and people of color (for example, credit building, sharia-compliant financing, ITIN acceptance. (Met Council/Local Government). 

Collaborate with agencies, regional stakeholders, and institutions on planning and programming that promote the economic well-being of the region, prioritizing efforts that reduce racial economic disparities through the development of innovation hubs, skill-building programs or shared-use facilities on institutions or public lands. (Met Council/Local Government)
