POLICY 17: Identify natural systems

This policy states:

Identify natural systems within and connecting cities, townships, and counties to assess areas for protection, restoration, and enhancement. (Met Council/Local Government)

What is a policy?
Policies are statements of intent and approach to regional issues or topics, independently and with partners.

Actions

(Met Council) or (Local Government) or (Met Council/Local Government) are tags indicating responsibility for implementing the activity. 

Provide tools and guidance on measuring the value of natural systems to assist local governments in protection, restoration, and enhancement efforts. (Met Council) 

Inventory natural systems within and between local jurisdictions, using mapping and data collection methods to inform conservation and land use planning decisions. (Met Council) 

Identify areas of opportunity for protection, restoration, and enhancement based on ecological significance, potential for ecosystem improvement, and equity considerations. The Met Council will provide technical assistance and tools for local planning purposes. (Local Government) 

Utilize your local or the Met Council’s natural systems inventory and assessment to develop action plans to implement preservation, restoration, and enhancement, while leveraging resources and monitoring progress. (Local Government)
